SNG provided services for EBU in Pakistan in December 2007 and February 2008. This was in relation to the ongoing turmoil in the country including the imposition of emergency rule imposed by President Musharraf in November and Benazir Bhutto's assassination the following month. Pakistan then held general elections on 18 February 2008.
SNG assisted the EBU in overcoming the many bureaucratic and operational issues involved in a deployment to Pakistan. Additionally SNG managed the building of a platform specifically for the safe siting of the satellite antenna and arranged the positions for the live shots.
Three live shots were offered during the elections. In the backdrop were the Parliament House, Presidential Residence and National Assembly. In total approximately 140 transmissions were carried out in the few days over the elections. "We had a great team who worked closely together and supported each other. As a result, a potentially difficult operation went ahead as smoothly as it could have". Sonia Tan, Producer, EBU.
